About the Program The Iowa Jump$tart Coalition and Iowa 4‑H share a commitment to Positive Youth Development. By combining Jump$tart’s focus on financial literacy with the 4‑H “learn‑by‑doing” philosophy, this AmeriCorps position expands access to high‑quality financial education for youth across Iowa—especially in rural and underserved communities. Members help ensure young Iowans gain essential life skills for long‑term economic stability.
Position Overview The AmeriCorps member will support statewide financial literacy initiatives by building networks, strengthening educator connections, coordinating student competitions, and expanding access to vetted financial education resources. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys outreach, organization, relationship‑building, and contributing to meaningful statewide impact.
Key Service Activities
- Identify organizations across Iowa to support a statewide directory.
- Design and maintain a searchable database of financial literacy providers.
- Implement statewide outreach by drafting communication templates, organizing contact lists, sending targeted messages, and tracking district engagement.
- Strengthen educator networks by sharing resources and maintaining communication logs.
- Coordinate student competitions such as the Personal Finance Challenge and Economics Challenge.
- Assist with educator events including symposiums and trainings.
- Evaluate and organize financial literacy materials aligned with Iowa standards.
- Draft outreach content such as newsletters and educator updates.
Service Schedule Members serve a minimum of 19 hours per week. Some evening or weekend service may occur during events or statewide outreach periods.
Eligibility Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Must have a high school diploma or GED (or be in the process of obtaining one)
- Must pass a national service criminal history check
- Must be a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or lawful permanent resident
AmeriCorps Member Benefits
- Living Allowance: $9,500.00 paid in equal semi‑monthly installments
- FICA and Workman’s Compensation: Provided by the program
- Segal Education Award: $3,697.50 upon successful completion of the service term

Performance Expectations Members must complete required AmeriCorps 4‑H Canvas trainings, submit bi‑monthly timesheets, complete monthly reports, and participate in scheduled check‑ins with program staff. Mid‑term and end‑of‑term evaluations are required.
Impact This position directly supports financial literacy access for Iowa youth and educators—helping build a stronger, more financially capable future for communities across the state.
